Famous Bands from Birmingham

The city of Birmingham is home to over 1.1 million people who are the fuel to the cities success in all aspects, especially the music scene. Birmingham has produced some of the finest and most talented musicians, and at Drum Lessons Birmingham we think that dreaming of playing on the world stage, working to towards the top - no matter how far away it would seem - is one of the most important things about learning an instrument and giving yourself a goal. This philosophy goes without saying and applies to all areas of life. Below are some of Birmingham's greatest talents - enjoy reading their success stories and realise how anyone can make it to the big time with hard work put in.

 Black Sabbath's Bill Ward

Bill Ward was the Drummer for the big hit 70s band Black Sabbath. He hails from the Aston area of Birmingham as do the rest of the original members of the group and began learning the drums as a child. He performed on many world tours with the band as they explored with their newfound international superstardom, and recorded 13 albums.

Bill Was with Black Sabbath on and off for over 30 years and has had a music career that we at Drum Lessons Birmingham encourage our students to follow and dream towards.

Electric Light Orchestra

Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) is a symphonic rock group from Birmingham. They released 11 albums between the early '70s and late '80s and accumulated 27 top 40 singles in Britain and the United States. ELO formed in the late 1960s and have been in the spotlight since, most famously in their 'golden era' of the '70s and '80s but they have continued to deliver for their fans and have performed in many concerts since.

 Duran Duran's Roger Taylor

Roger Taylor was raised in the Shard End area of Birmingham and began learning the drums at age 12.  He later joined the rock band Duran Duran and became an international superstar. Duran Duran is one of the 1980's biggest names and recorded 3 albums in the '80s including the theme to the James Bond film 'A View to Kill' - an honour which only the most prestige musicians get to boast about.

 The Vamps' Brad Simpson

Brad Simpson is a Birmingham born lead vocalist and guitar player for the 2012-formed young pop band 'The Vamps'. They first gained fame via cover songs uploaded to youtube - an increasingly popular way for new solo artists or groups to introduce themselves to the music scene on the internet to be seen by potentially thousands or millions of people. The group is comparable to the boy band 'One Direction' and signed to Mercury Records in November of 2012. They've had a few top 5 hits in the British charts and have many years to improve and have even more success, as all members of the band are in their late teens or early twenties.

Drum Lessons Birmingham would like to reinforce the fact that Brad Simpson, as of 2015, is only 19 years old - and is a perfect example of anyone becoming someone. Dream towards the top of the ladder.
